
1979 – 1997: Following university, moved to Massachusetts and worked at Emerson College, AtlantiCare Medical Center, Efficacy Research Institute and The State of Massachusetts. Worked as a clinical psychologist and family therapist, a clinical supervisor, a mental health director, a senior administrator, and a facilitator responsible for providing therapeutic services, administrative management, focus groups, the distribution of state funds for residential mental health facilities and became a quality management expert. Also had a successful clinical private practice in Salem, Massachusetts.
Born in London but moved to New York, USA as a child and raised and educated there. Attended Hofstra University, Long Island, NY, and graduated: BS Sociology 1976; MS Psychology 1978; and PD Family Therapy 1979.
1997: Moved to Cumbria, UK.
1999 – 2015: Owner/director of two dental practices managing all administrative aspects including customer services, CQC, human resources and quality management.
1999 – 2009: Psychologist/family therapist for NHS, Cumbria at Portland Square.
Provided outpatient family therapy, within CAMHS, working with referred children, family and adults with a variety of complex life and community issues.
2001 to present: Magistrate – Adult Court (crime) and Family Court Panel. Was an appraiser and Training & Development Committee Member. 20014 – 2017: Carlisle Bench Deputy Chair; and, currently, 2017 until 2019: Bench Chair of North & West Cumbria Bench. Also North West Regional Representative to the National Bench Chair Forum and National Representative to the Probation Sentencing Board.
2010 – 2015: Board member of Safety Net (agency providing mental health services and support to complex families with a history of sexual/physical abuse).
2015 to present: Owner/director of one dental practice. See above for details.
2016 to present: Board member of Tullie House Museum, Carlisle.
Throughout: given many employee awards and recognitions; raised money for numerous charities.
Future: High Sheriff of Cumbria 2019/20.
